Lorentz Force is used in the real life. Many people don't see it that way. First I will explain what is Lorentz Force. Lorentz Force is the force exerted by a magnetic field on the moving electric movement causing the copper wire to move around the battery in circular movement. Now if you don't know what a magnetic field is. Is is region around a magnetic material or a moving electric charge within the force of magnetism acts. This help make the wire around the magnet and battery make the circular rotation around it. This is often used in small car toys. they have small motors in them that makes force making the car to move. There are many ways that the homopolar motor is used. It's used in the medical field helping lives.
The homopolar motor is very important to our everyday lives because its used in the medical field. MRI scan have small RF coils that excites and receives RF magnetic field at Larmor frequency. In order to use the MRI scan the patient have to stay still to get a good picture of the inside of a body. To find bullets or metal inside of a body, or to see the inside of the brain and organs. The coil help find metal inside of a body looking for metal even though they make loud noises. Those patients are offered earplugs.
Homopolar is used for motors and to power batteries to machines all round us. Like homopolar use magnets and on each magnet have poles called the North and South. We must know that magnetic field runs through these from the North and South poles. The electric current produced movements of electrons though the object that is conductive. The flowing of the electrons to the battery going out of the negative end to the positive terminal, and back to the battery to the negative loop.
Evening if there is no outside connection the battery cannot produce a current because there is an open circuit, and when the circuit is closed like plugging the battery into an object like a flashlight. The electron are able to flow form the negative terminal to an object being powered and back to the positive terminal and through conductive solution inside the battery over and over the loop till the electrons are no longer able to produce with the needed energy. The Homopolar is used by Lorentz Force. The Lorentz Force shows the force results from the velocity charged particles through the magnetic field. The more closer the current and magnetic field it gets to a right angle. The force will get stronger putting the screw on the basic motor or the wired to an upgraded version. The direction of the current flow is moved into a V or a current arm with the magnetic field arm going to the direction of the current and field at the same time, the force is going to the direction where the force is resulting from the interaction.
The wire is the path so that the current to come back from the positive terminal to the negative terminal making it close the circuit. This make the battery lose its charge quickly that the interaction between the magnet's field and the current of the battery resulted into a torque force on the magnet that will run either clockwise and counter clockwise. Also it depends on the flow of the current. Whenever you switch the magnets to the positive terminal and the wire bend or the screw to the negative terminal making it spin to the opposite direction.
Although the term Homopolar often confused the students to think the same poles when it eventually means that their is no change on polarity in the motor. Some might find the interaction between the poles of the magnet and the field and the motor will work in the same direction with no regard of which the pole the magnet is contacting the terminal.
Many people will think that the direction of electrical current is going to change the the battery. We must know that the flow of electrons will not change the direction and that the magnet is not attracted or does not repel the electrons to the battery. The force is created is surrounding the magnet because of the current crossing through the magnetic field lines. Even while doing the experiment many people will think that touching the battery and magnet will shock them. The only thing that people would be careful is that the battery and wire could get hot over time. But at the end it will not shock you if you touch because there is no electricity going on in the experiment. Again we must understand what is magnetic field and Lorentz Force in order to understand why the wire is moving around the battery.
