Introduction and Education

Dr. Bilal has received his Ph.D. degree from University of Bristol, Bristol, U.K in 2010. His area of research was Millimetre-wave Radio-Over-Fiber (RoF) systems and Microwave Photonics. He worked in the Photonics Research Group at the University of Bristol, UK under the supervision of Prof. Martin J. Cryan. The title of his PhD. thesis was "Next Generation Millimetre-Wave Radio-over-Fibre Systems using Mode-locked lasers".

Dr. Bilal received his M.Sc. degree in Communication Engineering and Signal Processing from the University of Plymouth, Plymouth, UK, in 2005 and the B.S degree in Computer Engineering from Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, Pakistan, in 2002.

Experience

From 2003 to 2004, he was a Software Engineer in Simcon International (Pvt.) Ltd, Pakistan.

From Aug. 2010 till Aug. 2016, he worked as a Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) in the Department of Electronics and Power Engineering (EPE), PN-Engineering College (PNEC), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Karachi, Pakistan.

Between Jun. 2015 to Sep. 2015, he worked as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Lightwave Systems Research Laboratory, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Queens University, Kingston, Canada with Prof. John Cartledge on the NSERC-CREATE Next Generation Optical Network (NGON) project on the Characterization of 25GHz RF signal generation Optical Comb Sources and their applications in Next Generation of Optical Communication and Microwave Photonic Systems.

From Aug. 2016 - Jan. 2019, Dr Bilal was working as Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, Islamic University of Madina (IUM), Madina, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

From Jan. 2017 – To Date, Dr Bilal is also working as Lead ABET Program Coordinator and leading the Electrical Engineering Department for ABET Accreditation. In this work, he is extensively involved in the data collection and compilation of the Self-Study Report (SSR) for ABET Accreditation. He is also actively involved in Outcome-Based Education (OBE), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) processes implementation at the Electrical Engineering Department.

From Feb. 2019 – To Date, Dr Bilal is working as Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, Islamic University of Madina (IUM), Madina, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Memberships and Services

Dr. Bilal is a Senior Member IEEE, USA since 2018, Member IEEE, USA since 2007 and Life member Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) since 2003 and a Higher Education Commission (HEC) approved Ph.D. supervisor in Pakistan.

Dr. Bilal is also a Associate Editor of IEEE Access Journal since Dec. 2019. IEEE Access is a Q1 Journal ISI Indexed Journal.

Dr. Bilal is also serving as an active reviewer for many prestigious IEEE Transactions and Journals including IEEE Access, IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation (TAP), IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques (MTT) etc.

He is also serving as reviewer for many other prestigious journals like Wiley International Journal of Communication Systems, Wiley International Journal of RF and Microwave Computer-Aided Engineering and Wiley Microwave and Optical Technology Letters.
