Class Code:
Offered to: M.Sc. in Microelectronics
Prerequisites: None officially. A solid undergraduate foundation in Digital Communications is a must.
Course Description:
The objective of this class is to introduce Integrated Circuits Engineers to wireless Communications. We focus on the digital signal processing in the baseband. The main interest of the class is to discuss the basic operations of major building blocks in an OFDM transceiver with emphasis on implementation issues. WiFi packet based communication is the main illustrative example, with details of the 802.11n standard used to expose standardization. Occasional comparisons are made with 4G LTE to expose major differences between WiFi and mobile.
Topics:
1-Wireless channel modeling
2-Platforms for signal processing
3-Baseband modulation and channel coding
4-Wideband transmission, OFDM, and FFT/IFFT
5-Multiple antennas and MIMO decoding
6-Synchronization
7-Comparison of WiFi and LTE
