RESEARCH INTERESTS
Public Governance; Intergovernmental Relations & Local Government; Public Policy Analysis; Comparative and Development Studies
One of the major areas of my research interest is collaborative public governance which is a mode of governance that brings multitude stakeholders together in common forum with public agencies to engage in concession-oriented decision making. Thus, collaboration is traceable to exhaustion and frustration from constant battling over the disposition of natural resources and land management approaches and the need to overcome this and find amicable method of reconciling differences-collaborative forums are encouraged by a conflictual stalemate. The rise of collaborative governance can be attributed to many ‘wicked problems’ that are difficult or impossible to solve. The motivation to overcome “wicked problems”, such as resource control, inter and intra state boundary conflicts, legislative-executive conflicts, insurgency, farmers-herdsmen conflicts, ethnicity, communal conflicts, climate change, succession crises, electoral conflicts among others experienced by stakeholders in Nigeria is the driving force to collaborate and most of my research papers focused on these. My PhD thesis and other works are also centred on the subject matter of intergovernmental relations which deal with an important body of activities and interaction occurring between government units of all types and levels especially under a federal system. Local government is another area of interest where other researches were carried out. Finally, a few of my research works are in the area of comparative and development studies which is concerned with country-by-country description of the structures and processes of administration as well as the planning, implementation, and consequences of social, political and economic changes among people of the Third and Fourth worlds.
1 Gender-based Violence and Women Empowerment in Lagos State, Nigeria.
The main objective of the study is to determine the extent to which women’s economic empowerment can cause Gender-based violence (GBV) in Lagos Mega City. The study relies on both primary data (such as structured questionnaire, focused group discussion (FGDs) and interviews) and secondary data (most especially published textbooks, journals, newspapers, magazines etc). The study also utilises ex-post facto and survey research designs. The study is being conducted in five local government areas selected in the five (5) major divisions of the state that is: Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, and Epe. Interviews will be conducted with household heads, NGOs, Church elders and Imams, and focus group discussions is to be held with local communities.
A multi-stage sampling technique was used for the study (i.e. purposive and simple random sampling techniques). To ensure the validation of the instrument, the content validity method was used and to test the reliability of the instrument, a pilot study was conducted by the researcher vis-à-vis the expected outcome based on the hypotheses. The Cronbach Alpha reliability for construct is 0.83. Data collected will be analysed using descriptive statistics such as simple percentage, frequency distribution, and the hypotheses will be tested through Correlation Co-efficient and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Conclusion and recommendations are to be made based on the findings of the study.
