Abstract: Reliability and security of data are essential requirement of data communications, particularly if the transported packets contain sensitive information. With the growing use of wireless networks the concern of reliability and security has grown to a large extent. In this thesis emphasis has been given on a new kind of network known as wireless sensor network and security issues related to routing of data within wireless sensor networks. Security issues in traditional sensors were very limited as they were only used for sensing the data like smoke, humidity, temperature etc. The present scenario has changed a lot, present day sensors have capability to communicate as well as has computational power. Also these networks are dispersed across a large geographical area.

Wireless sensor networks have found its place in applications like habitat monitoring, building safety, earthquake monitoring, ocean monitoring, monitoring of road traffic, pollution control, automatic control systems, wildfires, and many military applications. Sensor networks are always designed for specific application. This states that a network that can be used for habitat monitoring may not necessarily work for monitoring of road traffic. As the topology and the routing requirement differs from application to application so does the security issues. Broadly these issues have been categorized as generic, cryptography, key management, routing security, location aware security, data fusion and others. As the existing traditional security techniques cannot be directly applied to the wireless sensor networks, the security of sensor networks poses a unique challenge.  The aim of this research is to provide a security model for sensor network applications that can be used as an assistive tool for visually impaired persons. 

The major contributions of this work can be summed up as following:

1. WSN architecture for secure movement of visually impaired person.

2. WSN architecture for secured movement in Smart Campus for visually impaired person.

3. Implementation of both the above proposed architectures using Omnet++, PAWiS 2.0 and .Net framework.

4. A demonstration and counter measures of security concerns applicable on these architectures.

5. A generalized security model that can be used to prevent the attacks during routing.

Current Status:

At present I am registered as a Ph.D guide at GLS University and am RDC member at various universities like Gujarat Technological University, Gujarat University, Indus University and, Ganpat University.
