A Few Words from One of our Shepherds

Fr Tony Fernandes

November 1, 2023 – Feast of All Saints. I had put on my FB status the following: “We can do away with uttering sweet nothings over our dead bodies, by affirming them while still alive. In this way, we make them saints while they still walk with us.”

This morning I remembered you all at the Eucharist and took for granted that although I could not remind you about this special month, I will continue to pray for the deceased members of our DRGS and their families in November.

Given the unprecedented opportunity on October 10, 2023, to celebrate Mass in the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, the spot where Jesus was laid in the tomb and rose again, my thoughts went straight to my family, friends and DRGS colleagues.  Our website may come to the day to be ‘entombed’, but I know that from its place of ‘rest’ will arise the happy memories that still bind us together.  Age is only a number.  Hearts will remain warm and tender.

Merwin, you gave me the unique arena and privilege to lift to God the DRGS troops on so many special occasions and I owe it to them.  The path that I had been called by God to follow had its direction rooted on the deep foundation of the love, friendship and support of my family, DRGS colleagues and friends.  Yes, I walked with saints who shall always remain my friends.  Our Christian hope reminds us that we shall all meet and that which will ever increase our friendship, will be, to find ourselves before Him who loved us first.

Thank you for making this possible for us and your patience with the ‘GOATS’ has been remarkable.  We respect your decision, and may God give you His light to not only shine brightly ahead but that you may also continue to touch many other lives waiting out there.

May God bless you.

Fr. Tony
