Dr. C P Paul is leading a research group in the area of Additive Manufacturing and Technology Incubation Activities at Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT).  He is recognized as one of the top 2% most Influential scientists worldwide for the last four consecutive years (i.e., 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022) in the list prepared by Stanford University US and published by Elsevier B V.

Dr. Paul has over 20 years of experience in the research and development of LAM, from system development to its applications in engineering. His research programs focus on next-generation additive manufacturing systems and processes. To this end, he explores novel techniques to develop advanced materials, innovative products, modeling and simulation tools, and holistic in-situ and ex-situ characterization techniques.

He is instrumental in promoting AM technology in India through collaborations with other national labs and reputed academic institutes by extending the indigenous developed facility for experiments. He has contributed chapters to 26 books and published over 150 research papers in reputed international journals. He has recently authored a textbook on Additive Manufacturing for Undergraduate/ Postgraduate Students, Faculty Members, and practicing AM Engineers.

Now, the LAM (both Directed Energy Deposition (DED) and Powder Bed Fusion (PBF)) facility is now available to industries and academia under incubation service. LAM-DED Technology has been already transferred to three industrial partners (one established industry and two startups).

Dr. Paul is actively contributing to the commercialization of RRCAT-developed Technologies as Head Technology Transfer Cell and promoting technology development in partnership with Industries and Startups as Founding Director and Head, AIC π- Hub RRCAT. He is also a Professor at Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) - a deemed to be University under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, and guided/ guiding 10 PhD and 33 M.Tech. Students.

Before joining RRCAT, he graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Vikram University, Ujjain, India, and worked for two professionally managed public companies as a Design Engineer. He earned a Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering in Laser Additive Manufacturing of Engineering Components in 2005 and was a Research Professor at the University of Waterloo, Canada during 2006 - 2008.

His extensive experience and leadership have allowed him to address LAM challenges holistically and promote technology development in this strategic research area. His efforts have been recognized with many awards by the Indian and Canadian Governments:

He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), a Life Member of the Indian Laser Association (ILA), and an Associate Member of the American Society of Metals (ASM).
