As postdoctoral reasearcher I work(ed) with Prof. Dr. Simon Verhulst & team at the University of Groningen in a long-term project on free-living Jackdaws Corvus monedula. Jackdaws in this population are individually marked with unique ring combinations, chicks are cross-fostered to disentangle genetic and non-genetic effects and reproductive effort of parents is routinely manipulated. Jackdaws are highly philopatric breeders, which allows us to follow their life histories. For information on the long-term project see here.
In another postdoctoral project I work(ed) with Dr. Paulo Catry from the ISPA in Lisbon and Marie Claire Gatt and Prof. Dr. José Pedro Granadeiro from the University of Lisbon on Cory's Shearwater Calonectris borealis. This fascinating long-lived seabird species breeds with about 30 000 pairs on Selvagem Grande. On average they breed for the first time at the age of 9 years and the oldest individual in the dataset included in my analyses was 36 years old. For information on the long-term project see here.
With Prof. Dr. Klaudia Witte & team from the University of Siegen I work(ed) in a project investigating life-history strategies of Common Swifts Apus apus. The breeding colony is located inside a highway bridge over Lake Bigge, close to the city of Olpe, Germany. For information on the long-term project see here and here.
I did my doctoral thesis supervised by Prof. Dr. Peter H. Becker at the Institute of Avian Research in Wilhelmshaven at the German North Sea coast on Common Terns Sterna hirundo.
The long-term project on Common Terns is now being led by Dr. Sandra Bouwhuis and Dr. Oscar Vedder. For information on the project see here.
