The Douglass family has been managing properties in Washington D.C. since the beginning of the twentieth century.
This began with James E. Douglass, who worked with the Chevy Chase savings and loans, to develop upper northwest Washington. After developing much of the area he and his wife, Nellie, eventually saved enough to build and operate their own building on the outskirts of Washington, surrounded mostly by farm land at the time.
After James passed away, Nellie continued to run the properties up until the 1970's when Nellie's grandchildren John and Diane Douglass came of age.

John and Diane ran the business until 2002 when Earle and James Douglass joined the team. Diane Douglass passed away in 2007, leaving John and Earle to run the business while James assisted part-time. Earle left the business to pursue a career in law.
Jinx Douglass, John's wife, merged her own real estate and management business into Douglass Management, Inc. She remained an integral part of the management business until her passing in December, 2019.
Today, James is the company's licensed broker, working alongside John Douglass to maintain and build the company's portfolio. James' young daughters, Helena and Cora, have assisted the company part-time with tours, organizing papers, and keeping their father and grandfather company with arts and crafts in the office.
