Dmitry Cheglakov is a cellist, and also composer, electroacoustic artist and guitarist. From 2003 till now he holds the position of principal cello in moscow "New Russia" symphony orchestra, also participating as a guitarist in some of it's programs. In his solo creative activity, since the mid 90s, there are performing of compositions by Iraida Yusupova (on cello, electric guitar, also on original electric cello and trombamarine), Vladimir Nikolaev (on cello, also on e-guitar), Albert Semyonovich Leman (on cello); performing of other contemporary and classical composers' music - both on modern and baroque cello; electroacoustic improvisations with Svyatoslav Ponomarev, Sergey Samsonov and solo; collaboration as a composer and a sound-designer with the choreographer Andrey Kaydanovsky; recording and performing of his own compositions (for cello, electronics, cello and electronics, e-guitar); participation as a performance artist, cellist, guitarist and electroacoustic artist in works of choreographer and musician Oleg Soulimenko; works and participation in joint ventures related to the synthesis of sound, performance and video components; works in the field of rock music. Also was shooted in a movie project of Ilya Khrzhanovsky "Dau" in the role of Landau's associate physicist-mathematician Korets (Film "Dau. Dau", release pending).
Dmitry was born in Moscow in 1970. Graduated from the Central Musical School (Moscow) in 1988 as a cellist, then from Moscow conservatory in 1993, also as a cellist, having received a diploma with qualification of "concert and chamber performer, teacher". Cello teachers: Alexander Fedorchenko (at school and conservatory) and Natalya Shakhovskaya (at conservatory). Studied composition as an optional subject in Anatoliy Bikanov's class (at school) and Albert Leman's (at conservatory). In 1998 got scolarship for Darmstadt courses of new music where he got also a cello masterclass study with Siegfried Palm. In 2000 participated as a cellist in open masterclass of Anner Bylsma in Moscow. From 2003 till 2005 trained on swiss state scholarship in Hochschule Musik und Theater Zurich in Roel Dieltiens' class (baroque and modern cello). In 2004 got a diploma in baroque cello.
Dmitry is a laureate of "Carlo Soliva" international chamber music competition (1992, 1st prize in duet section, cello-piano with pianist Ilya Kruglov). Also got an incentive (Anerkennung) prize at Kiwanis Alte Musik Wettbeverbe HMT Zurich (2005, baroque cello) and Grand Prix at online competition "Kabalevskaya estafeta" (2024, in duet section, cello-piano with pianist Sergey Golubkov). Participated as solo and chamber cellist in record labels publications: "Unknown Public" (UK, 2000), followed by airing on BBC-3 radio), "Megadisc Classics" (Belgium, 1998), "MarcoPolo" (Germany, 1999), "Boheme Music" (Russia, 1999), "Artservice Music Publishing" (Russia, 2014, 2016, 2017), "Da Vinci Classics" (Japan, 2024) and other. Iraida Yusupova's CD "Thunderbird" with Dmitry's participation as one of the soloists had got the "Pure Sound" international award in 2019. Dmitry made digital releases of some of his compositions and electroacoustic improvisations under "Donemus Composer's Voice" label in 2022-2023. Participated in his various qualities, apart from working in orchestras, in russian and foreign festivals: moscow festivals "Moscow Autumn" (from 90s until now periodically), "Alternativa" (90s - early 2000s), "Moscow Forum" (90s - early 2000s), "Kasemir Malevich performance fest" (2004-2009), "Tretyakovka-next" (2006), "Territory" (2007), "The Other Space" (2009), and also in festivals "Moscow - Berlin" (Berlin, 1995), "Art of Movement" (Yaroslavl, 2008), "Taimirsky Kaktus" (Norilsk, 2008), "Time Canvas" (Antwerp, 2013), and other. Selected ballets of Andrey Kaydanovsky with Dmitry' participation as sound-designer and composer were nominated for awards: "Tea or Coffee?" for "Golden Mask" in 2017, "Pajama Party" for "Golden Mask" in 2020 and "Cecil Hotel" for "Benois de la Danse" in 2020.
