4. Use Cases Breakout Sessions

In this section we will review possible scenarios that can occur when deciding what geographic authority and metadata to use when cataloguing for a particular collection or when developing blanket procedures. Use cases comprise of a set of possible considerations and goals.

Examples of use case scenarios are as follows:

National Parks Collections:

Goals:

- Harvested by regional consortium and DPLA.

- Including mapping features on collection website.

- Exact, item-level locations for bulk of collection desired.

Considerations:

- Collection has many natural feature locations in the United States. Mountains, creeks, trails, balds, etc.

- Coordinates data needed for GIS features.

- Regional consortium requires LCSH county data mapped to dcterms:spatial.

Goals:

- To display county outlines instead of just a point in the middle of the county. Regional areas where someone needs to express information about the Bear River Watershed. (Importing boundary box county information)

Considerations:

- Historic place names.

- Must map location data to dcterms:spatial.

What are some scenarios in which you've had a a complex set of considerations when making geospatial metadata decisions?

Are you currently grappling with geospatial metadata decisions for your collections?

Thinking creatively, what are some complex scenarios you could encounter?
