Petition to be on the 2023 (ISC)2 Board Slate

I am throwing my hat into the ring and am running as an independent candidate for the (ISC)2 Board of Directors. I did self-nominate but the committee did not select me.

.A bit about me and what I have/had done whilst on the Board previously. I have been certified since 1997 and am Canadian. My first exposure to the organization was doing test development. At that time, David Krehnke and I worked together to Internationalize the CISSP (and now other certifications). We brought together people from around the world to work on the exams to make them truly represent the Community. When first on the board, we worked to ensure International representation (folks from Singapore, Ireland, England, Mexico, Denmark, etc.). I was responsible for bringing the first strategy to the Board (being Member Focused). Additionally, I brought the Women's Scholarship to the board for its implementation.

I would like to have my name included on the Board of Directors' ballot for the upcoming election beginning on November 1, 2022. . In order to be considered, I need the support of no less than 500 members who are in good standing (as of June 14th, 2019) before September 1, 2022 If you like what I have to say, please send me an email supporting my petition to Threeofus4BoD@gmail.com and please include the following information:

  • statement that you endorse my candidacy

  • your email address as recorded with (ISC)²

  • the name that (ISC)2 has on file for you

  • your member (certificate) number

So what do I want to do this go round?

  • Open communications between the board and members - transparency

  • Correct issues with the ETHICS committee (this committee should have members on it and not be staffed with six board members. This Committee needs defined processes to work and should be independent of the board. As per the by-laws, the Board Chair should appoint ONE Board member to the committee and other members of the committee should be non-board.

  • Ensure fiscal responsibility

  • Ensure the Membership are getting real value for their Maintenance Fees (AMFs) through knowledge bases, CPE opportunities such as improving Customer Service (four days to change a password, seems a tat long)>

  • Continue to develop an outreach out program for younger folk employers (Diversity). This may or not include Licensure

  • Work with the Board, Management, Members, Advisory Boards (where they exist) to provide a range of certificates that cover specialized areas of security. Better differentiation for certificate holders

  • Ensure that subsquent elections offer a choice in candidate not a one for one matching.

Qualifications

  • Have always made myself available to answer members' questions or concerns (personal email is dlcontesti@gmail.com, on twitter: Rougerider, (ISC)² Community: dcontesti )

  • Own a small consulting firm that specializes in Industrial Control Systems and Architecture assisting firms to ensure their data is protected

  • Was the CISO for a Global 500 organization

  • Presented Globally on topics such as Emotional Intelligence, ICS Security, Unix Security, APT, Windows Security, Women in Security

  • Understand the certification industry

  • Proven track record of completing projects

  • Extensive experience in Finance, Information Security and Risk Management in industry (I started my career as an accountant)

  • Past Chairman of the Board, during which time:

    • We developed the Member focused strategy (some of which is being implemented now)

    • We brought members the (ISC)² Chapter organization, something folks had been asking for over a long period of time

    • We developed and implemented the Women's Scholarship

    • Created chapters

  • Have either Chaired or been on many committees of Board. I also was the Treasurer and Secretary of the board at different times.

Experience

  • Two degrees (B. Commerce and Computer Systems)

  • Thirty years experience in Information Security

  • Past Chairman of the (ISC)² Board of Directors

  • Member of the Global CIO office for ArcelorMittal (largest steel manufacturer in the world)

  • Recently featured in Women Know Cybersecurity (featuring some of the top women in the industry)

Thank you for your consideration, again if you would like to support me, please send me an email at Threeofus4BoD@gmail.com. Also, please support Stephen Mencik and Richard Nealon (you can use the same email to support them.)

With thanks
