Your assessment for this section of the subject will be based on a workbook and accompanying materials, comprising:
1. Three A4 pen and ink drawings of scenes from the "Odyssey" of Homer. You should ensure that your choice of subjects allows you to demonstrate your grasp of the topics dealt with this year. Specifically, each drawing should be in a realistic style showing at least two figures that look "solid", that display believable and expressive action, and that are set in a space with a believable perspective. Further, each drawing should show an effective composition, based on demonstrated exploration of alternative arrangments, and an appropriate use of sketches and photo reference (i.e. don't guess anything that you can find out). At least one of the drawings must be coloured using pencil/watercolour/gouache, acrylic/markers/mixed mediums.
2. Preparatory work (counting for 40% of Assessment Two), which should include:
- compositional studies exploring alternative arrangements
- sketchbook studies for details
or landscape settings
- printed copies of photo reference you have used
- a full-scale pencil preparatory study (modello)
- reduced-scale studies exploringing the expressive effect of alternative tonal and colour schemes.
Suggestions of scenes for illustration will be made here later.
