DIYSportscar - The Gecko Project

My project to build my own mid-engined sports car

Having long held a dream of building my own car, I had my enthusiasm kicked along in the late nineties when I found a book called "Build Your Own Sports Car for as Little as £250" by an English school teacher, Ron Champion. This book describes the construction of a Lotus 7-ish car based on English Ford Escort and Cortina parts. It's a nice car and there's now a thriving community of builders world wide but it's not quite what I had in mind.

I want something different. I want something mid-engined. And so was born the Gecko Project. The car is called the Gecko because, like the lizard, I hope it'll be small, quick, and have sticky feet.

I haven't made brilliant progress over the last few years as family and other issues have imposed but I'm slowly moving forward. Go to my build diary to see the latest state of play.
