For one of our projects, in which we develop algorithms to predict where mobile nodes will be in the near future for optimized routing, we need to collect traces of how mobile users navigate through WiFi networks.
In order to collect this data, Patrick Godinho, an undergrad student in our group, has developed an Android app that records the following information, every 30 seconds, regarding the networks around Android mobile devices:
Here is an example of a log entry.
We respect your privacy, so rest assured that none of this data will be used to identify you or the places you visit. Before being available to our students or being published in any way, the data will be scrubbed of all personally identifiable data. In technical terms, SSID, BSSID, and Id will be hashed to values that cannot be reversed to their original values. If you accept this promise and would like to contributed to our research, please download the apk and follow the installation instructions bellow.
It would be important if you could run the app for at least 7 contiguous days, but, if for any reason, you cannot, any data contribution is welcome.
Initial results regarding this project have been published in the paper Node Position Forecast in MANET with PheroCast, at the AINA 2014 conference.
