Opportunity Analysis (2011)
Anderson SC (the county) is analyzed for development opportunities on a 5 point scale. This is an economic development oriented analysis, looking for where the jobs will be located as the primary aim.
Factors include: top employment centers, proximity to rail, empty industrial sites, prime intersections on I-85, on major highways, and within urban areas (US Census defined). Each factor has a euclidean distance applied and then rated on a 3 point scale, mostly it's within 1/2 mi at the highest rating. Each factor is weighted on a 3 point scale, with employment centers being the highest, and empty industrial and prime intersections on I-85 being next.
The smaller map shows this same opportunity scale applied per planning district using a zonal analysis tool.
The analysis is all in an Arc Model which does the analysis from raster base data, reclassifies each cell per its scale, and then does a big weighted sum, which is reclassified into the final 5 point scale.

303(d) Areas of Concern (2010)
Water quality is an area of specialization for me in planning. This map shows an the 303(d), the Clean Water Act section 303(d), listed sites that have either fecal coliform or turbidity problems. I pulled these 2 factors out as their remediation involves known solutions. Fecal Coliform is either unsewered homes or livestock. In this case it's homes and I am showing where the sewer lines currently run so we can understand if extending will help (yes). Turbidity comes from stormwater on disturbed soil, with several known BMPs (best management practices) that will help.

Site Analysis (2011)
This site is in a semi-rural location, with 2 cities that are growing this way, at the intersection of US-123 and 18 Mile Road. The analysis looks at suitability for development in residential or commercial uses. The map has a Bing layer for the aerial view, with features and line drawings on top. Contours are generated from a USGS DEM and wetlands taken from a state environmental agency (DHEC).
I think this would make a great conservation subdivision with 50% of the open space protected and clustered housing in the rest. Perhaps some light retail at the bottom of the site where the interchange from 123 comes in.
