This thesis has presented a complete framework for deploying WSN in subsurfaces with a view to increase in production and real-time monitoring of oil fields. Setting the sensor network within a harsh environment like oil wells is not only unique with respect to ongoing developments in subsurface explorations, but it also brings a range of features from the sensor world that can aid development and ease the monitoring of subsurfaces. In fact, by incorporating mobile sensors beneath the earth crust, the work attempts to introduce intelligence & decision-making capability not only in the technology applied for the exploration but also to the base station where all observations are recorded. Incorporating WSN and intelligence into subsurfaces shall make them self-organizing, self-managing intelligent field. The intelligence is taken out of the sensors in the form of information and can be further assessed by scientific community for real-time visualization. In order to achieve operational simplification and business objectives, the proposed algorithms perhaps more than any other will enable organizations around the world to be more decisive and competitive into the upcoming years.
