Writer, editor & communications specialist
Dimitra DeFotis is an award-winning writer, editor and leader working in communications using her investing and financial knowledge. She values intellect, authenticity and diversity.
From Dimitra: The economic drivers of our existence fascinate me, and I enjoy finding simple, entertaining language to explain complex concepts for any audience. I also like thinking about strategy and solving problems. Years of deadline journalism work make me a quick study and put me at ease with technology and change.
My photographer's eye and film documentary skills are multimedia storytelling assets in a changing world. I completed a Knight-Bagehot Fellowship at Columbia Business School and Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, where I earned a Master's degree. I hold a CFA Institute Investment Foundations certificate.
Experience:
I am a writer and editor in Brand, Marketing & Communications at EY (Ernst & Young) one of the world's largest consulting and advisory firms.
As a longtime Barron's investment writer and senior editor, I gave readers and investors smart, actionable ideas with financial research and storytelling on companies, stocks, debt and funds. I built expertise on industrials, energy and other sectors through a network of trusted sources. I built online traffic and a following as the Barron's emerging markets magazine columnist and prolific daily blogger.
At the Chicago Tribune, I contributed to the media industry's earliest online experiments in content, journalism, and building communities using the written word, photos and sound.
On the board of New York Women in Communications, I worked with the integrated marketing and communications team on projects including a website redesign.
I love music. During the pandemic, I played piccolo in the University of Illinois alumni marching band virtual homecoming video.
