The 1971 Welson Supermatic S-12: 50 years later in a digital format!

Like all the classic ol' drums, the Supermatic was built as a simple pattern player: 12 grooves... So S12, and 'Matic' like automatic. Super Automatic 12 grooves thing in other words! No params of course, yo we're in 1971 this is straight mono, play/stop and that's all x) I reproduced the original sounds, then unlocked some parameters so you can tweak them!

  • The original sounds... with editable synthesis parameters

  • Vintage mono spring tank effect included for that 70's vibe

  • Heat parameter which overdrives VCAs and adds variability

My fav way to check the ear-fitting accuracy on plugins is comparing the spectrum. This gives a good idea of the general impression, although it doesn't integrate fluctuation, nonlinear summing overdrive and all little details but anyway I'm not there yet x) In those old drum machines, the noise makes the signature for each model. So I compared it, orange is the emulation, purple is the original:
