Introduction
This digital book project commenced as an academic exercise in 2003. Subsequently, it grew into a substantially larger project. The building was chosen for its architectural merits, relation to a notable Australian painter and having been designed by outstanding, award-winning Australian architects.
At a much later stage, discussions were made with regards to the publication of a book focusing on this important (award-winning) piece of architecture. Initially, we had considered traditional publication, but found there were too many limitations.
(a print-version page mock-up test)
The important task at hand, we thought, was to offer access to the publication to as many individuals as possible. Therefore, it was only natural that we gravitated towards online publishing. That we understood the value of this project to the masses (especially students) and the discipline- in terms of the subject, thoroughness of content and presentation techniques -, made it an easy decision to disseminate it freely for everyone to download when completed. Now that it is, we do hope this will spread to encourage much more similar projects down the line.
In the absence or lack of the master-apprentice learning process, architectural publications are much relied upon in Architectural education. We think it helps tremendously if they are easily accessed through this digital flatland... So download, explore, enjoy and we hope you learn something and will share it with colleagues, friends, and families. Feel free to re-package the file(s) in a storage medium and pass it as a gift to them.
