Purpose
This research project began when Dr Geetha Kanaparan and Dr Diane Strode decided to investigate the agile software development practices that contribute to effective coordination. Research shows that well-coordinated software development initiatives are more successful but we do not know which practices contribute the most to well-coordinated agile software development. The results of this research will benefit those adopting agile approaches by improving their knowledge about which agile software development practices are most effective for coordinating software development and ultimately contribute to improved software development success.
What is coordination?
This research project is about coordination. What is coordination? We use this simple intriguing definition.
“When multiple actors pursue goals together, they have to do things to organise themselves that a single actor pursuing the same goals would not have to do. We call these extra organising activities coordination” (Malone, 1988, p. 5).
