Teaching

In Fall 2022 I am teaching Abstract Algebra 1 at Brooklyn College, CUNY (Math 3101).

Previous courses I have taught at Brooklyn College include Precalculus, Calculus I-III, Linear Algebra, Introduction to Differential Equations, Elementary Probability & Statistics, and Introduction to Topology, as well as independent studies. My goal is to incorporate active learning and inquiry-based learning techniques into my courses where appropriate. In Spring 2022 I was awarded a Claire Tow '52 Award from Brooklyn College for Excellence in Teaching.

At the University of Michigan I taught Math 351: Principles of Analysis. The course was (and is still currently) run using Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) techniques, meaning that the majority of the class is spent in group work and student presentations. I was awarded the Mathematics Department's Juha Heinonen Outstanding Postdoctoral Assistant Professor Teaching Award in April 2018.

My student Ankita Mohapatra from Math 351 at the University of Michigan interviewed me and wrote this essay for the AWM Student Essay Contest (College Level), which won an Honorable Mention.

At the end of August 2017 I was invited to teach a mini-course called Introduction to Proof for entering Masters of Education students at the U of M. The course was taught using IBL techniques, and the entire course was filmed in order to produce content for future IBL workshops. Portions of the class were observed live as part of the concurrent University of Michigan Math Department IBL Workshop.
