What is Dialysis?
Dialysis is a treatment that takes over your kidney function if those organs stop doing their job. This treatment is been done with the help of a dialysis machine.
Generally, there are two types of dialysis as –
Haemodialysis – In this type of dialysis the blood is put through a filter outside the body, cleaned and returned back to the body.
Peritoneal Dialysis – In this type, a special body is been put into the abdomen and the blood is been cleaned inside the body itself.
Need for Hemodialysis –
When the nephrons in the kidney are not working properly then we go through the hemodialysis. There are a certain disease of renal failure caused that are nephrotoxins, diabetics etc. And hence, in order to avoid or prevent from this, we go through the dialysis.
‘Hemodialysis’ the name indicates itself ‘hemo’ means blood and ‘dialysis’ means diffusion of solute molecules. Hemodialysis is also known as hemodialysis, kidney dialysis or simply dialysis. The treatment is useful in the removal of waste products such as creatinine and urea from the blood.
Principle of Dialysis
The principle of dialysis works on the diffusion of a solute across a semi-permeable membrane. It also involves osmosis, ultrafiltration, and diffusion. It works as such blood flows on one side of a semipermeable membrane whereas the dialysis fluid flows on the opposite side. There is a special substance known as dialysate that pulls the waste out from the blood.
How the treatment of Hemodialysis does take place?
During the treatment of hemodialysis, the patient has to sit back or else lie back in a chair.
Secondly, before starting as well as after treatment the weight, temperature and blood pressure of the patient is been measured.
Two needles will be placed on the arm of the patient where the fistula or the graph is located.
The dialysis machine contains a pump that slowly draws out your blood and sends it through another machine called a dialyzer
Dialyser acts like a kidney and filters out extra salt, fluid or waste. And then the clean blood is sent back to the body with the help of the second needle in the arm
The hemodialysis treatment lasts for 3-5 hours and needs to do near about 3 times a week.
Many of them have hemodialysis at home that needs treatment for 6-7 days for 2-3 hours
After the dialysis is been done for one patient, it is necessary to clean the tubing’s and filters with sterilizing fluid
In the end, the patient is disconnected from plumbing and needle wounds are been bandaged.
