eTask Frequently Asked Questions
Fixed in version 1.11.10.
When upgrading to iOS 5 Badge Counts, Sounds, and Local Notifications are turned off by default. To turn them back on go to the Settings app then Notifications then look for eTask in either the "In Notification Center" or "Not In Notification Center" group. Select eTask and scroll towards the bottom and turn on Badge App Icon. eTask should immediately show the badge count. You may also want to turn on Sounds and View in Lock Screen to ensure you see and hear the eTask notifications.
Some MS Exchange users will find that after updating to iOS 4.3 they receive a "The network connection was lost" error after several minutes. This only happens for Exchange servers using NTLM authentication. This is a problem with iOS 4.3. Upgrading to iOS 4.3.1 fixes the problem.
Tasks marked as complete from iCal on a Yahoo account do not show as complete on the Yahoo web-interface or in eTask. A problem report has been submitted to Yahoo on this issue.
On Chandler servers, once a task is marked completed you cannot undo this through eTask. iCal has the same problem with Chandler but you can reset this through the Chandler web-interface. Researching this issue. Once a start date or due date is added to a task Chandler converts the task to a calendar event. As a result these will not show in eTask. This is an issue with Chandler. We are contacting them on the issue.
Editing a task with iCal causes the Start Date, Percent Complete, and Categories to disappear. iCal does not support start dates, percent complete, or categories at this time on tasks. If these fields are important to you, consider using the free Sunbird calendar client available from Mozilla.org at: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/
Changing the Calendar property of tasks using iCal between calendars on the same server does not actually move the task. iCal and Apple mail will show that the calendar property has changed but other calendar clients (eTask and Sunbird) will still show the task in the original calendar folder. Deleting tasks after changing the calendar property on iCal may also cause duplicate entries on some servers. This is a known issue with iCal. The solution is to "Cut" the task, select the new calendar on the left, and then paste the task. The task will then be correctly moved.
Adding an alarm in the past to a new or existing task with eTask will cause the task to not be editable on Beehive. Fixed (1.9.7).
Categories set through Outlook when connected to Oracle Beehive do not show in eTask. According to Oracle experts the Oracle Beehive Extensions for Outlook is storing categories in a different attribute than CalDAV. This issue/limitation will be addressed in a future release of Oracle Beehive. Categories set by other CalDAV clients should be visible in eTask (and vice versa).
Categories set through Outlook when connected to Zimbra through ZCO (Zimbra Connector for Outlook) do not show in eTask. Outlook categories are stored in Zimbra as "Tags" and these do not translated to CalDAV Categories. The Zimbra server does support the CalDAV Category field so using eTask with a standard CalDAV client like Mozilla Thunderbird/Lightning will work fine. A bug report has been submitted to Zimbra on this issue.
Copying the authorization code from the Safari browser on the iPhone or iPad does not work. Here is a work around:
From a desktop computer:
1. Open a browser window and paste the following URL in the address line:
https://accounts.google.com/o/oauth2/auth?client_id=764935925840.apps.googleusercontent.com&redirect_uri=urn:ietf:wg:oauth:2.0:oob&scope=https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks&response_type=code
2. Login with your Google credentials.
3. Copy the auth code from the web page - it will work from Firefox, probably others as well.
4. Paste it into an email program or web-mail. One that you have an account on the iPhone.
From the iPhone:
1. Check your mail. Copy the auth code. The whole thing.
2. Open eTask
3. Create a new account (this will only work on a new account).
4. Select Google as the type
5. Paste the code into the Authorization code line. Don't use the Register line.
6. Select Test & Browse, select folder, press Save and Save again.

Assuming your user name is joe and your KMS domain is acme.com and your company's internet web-mail site is mail.acme.com then the URL would be:
http://mail.acme.com/calendars/acme.com/joe/Tasks. Older versions of Kerio used the default calendar for tasks: http://mail.acme.com/calendars/acme.com/joe/Calendar
for a secure connection use:
https://mail.acme.com/calendars/acme.com/joe/Tasks
If your company uses a non-standard port number (e.g. 7777) the add that to the URL as follows:
https://mail.acme.com:7777/calendars/acme.com/joe/Tasks
In the KMS web-interface you can right click on your default Calendar folder and select the "Use in calendar client" option. This will bring up a help window showing the Calendar URLs for various calendar clients. Look at the Mozilla Sunbird section. It will show URL like https://mail.acme.com/calendars/acme.com/joe/Calendar. This is the URL to use. For newer versions of Kerio (7.4.x) change "Calendar" to "Tasks".
Special Note for older versions of Kerio:
If you used "Tasks" at the end of your URL and you modified the task with eTask the task may no longer show in iCal. The proper collection for calendar events and tasks in KMS is the Calendar folder. Make sure your URL ends in "Calendar" (note the C is capitalized). For example https://mail.acme.com:7777/calendars/acme.com/joe/Calendar
See the Kerio web site for more information: http://www.kerio.com/connect
Public Task lists on Kerio
To configure iCal and eTask for consistent access a pubic calendar on Kerio each must be configured in a very specific way.
For iCal configure a new account manually as a CalDAV account. Don't use the delegate account that automatically shows up from your regular user account. The server settings are:
Server address will be something like: mail.acme.com
Configure the server path as follows: /caldav/users/acme.com/.public/
For eTask navigate to the public-calendars and select your calendar. The starting URL should be:
http(s)://mail.acme.com/public-calendars/acme.com
Next use the "Test & Browse" feature to find your public folder. Do NOT use the Tasks folder. Use the same public calender you see in iCal.
You should see the common name with a long URL with numbers below each common name.
Select the one that corresponds with your public calendar and press Save and Save again
eTask and iCal should now be in sync. Public tasks will show in the Public Folders/Tasks folder on the Kerio web-interface.
We support MS Exchange Server 2007 with service pack 1 (SP1) applied and all versions of Exchange Server 2010 and 2013. We now also support Flagged emails.
eTask requires that Exchange Web Services (EWS) are enabled. Usually if the Outlook Web Access (OWA) is enabled then EWS will also be enabled but this is not guaranteed. Please contact your network administrator if you are unsure of your setup.
Please see our setup page for MS Exchange: Exchange-Setup
Hosted Exchange Accounts:
1. Logon into your e-mail account using Outlook Web App (OWA).
2. Click Options > See All Options > Account > My Account > Settings for POP, IMAP, and SMTP access.
or
Click the Gears icon (top right), then Account (top left), then Settings for POP, IMAP, and SMTP access.
3. Look for the server name under IMAP settings
The URL of Exchange Web Service is a URL like "https://" + "Server name" for example:
https://pod12345.outlook.com or https://outlook.office365.com
MicrosoftOnLine
The best URL for microsoftonline accounts is https://outlook.office365.com
General
Typically the base URL used by eTask will be similar to the URL used to access Outlook Web Access. Some examples include https://owa.company.com or https://mail.company.com/exchange or https://mail.company.com/owa.
To configure eTask to use MS Exchange 2007 press the + sign from the Account View (main page). From here enter the name for the account then the URL, your user name, and password. Do NOT include a Windows domain in your user name as in Workspace\joesmith.
Next press the "Test & Browse" line and wait for eTask to search for Task folders. The default task is usually called "Tasks" select this then press Save. Press save again and you are done.
Flagged Emails
You may manage flagged emails in eTask by selecting one folder that contains flagged emails. Press the "Flagged emails:" line and select the folder of your choice.
For Google accounts select Google as the account type. Please see Google in the Known Issues section above if copying the auth code does not work.
Next press the "Register with Google" line and wait for the page to display. You will be presented with a page that says "eTask is requesting permission to: ... Manage your tasks". Press "Allow Access".
If this is the first time you will be asked log into your Google account first. Use your Gmail account username and password. Sometimes Google experiences an error at this stage. If this happens just press the Done button and then "Register with Google" again. This time it will go directly to the access page.
After pressing Allow Access from the Register page Google will present you with an access token. Use the build-in iPhone/iPad Copy/Paste feature to Select All then Copy. Next press the Done button.
Press the Authorization Code line in the Account setup page of eTask and Paste the code.
Next press Test & Browse to select the task folder you want. Press the line with the desired task list and press Save then Save again and you are done.

Yahoo URL:
Assuming your registered name on Yahoo is Joe Smith and your user name is joe123 then use the following for the URL:
Your default calendar will be:
https://caldav.calendar.yahoo.com/dav/joe123/Calendar/Joe_Smith (see iCal note below)
If your user name is an e-mail address like: joe123@bellsouth.net then the URL would be:
https://caldav.calendar.yahoo.com/dav/joe123@bellsouth.net/Calendar/Joe_Smith
For iCal use:
https://caldav.calendar.yahoo.com/principals/users/joe123
iCal will find the calendars and task lists automatically (see iCal note below)
Very Important - you will need to add a 3rd party password to use eTask with Yahoo. Here are the steps:
Login to the webmail.
Press on the Calendar icon at the top right to bring up the Calendar view
Press the Top gear icon next to your name and select Account Info
Select Account Security at the top left

For “Select you app” select Other and type in etask
Press the Generate button
Type this into the password field in eTask
Note on iCal use with Yahoo Calendars:
Please note that Yahoo has recently changed their CalDAV access to calendars and To Do lists. This change affects they way iCal operates with with Yahoo, particularly on Snow Leopard.
In the past CalDAV access was only provided for Calendars, not To Do lists, so we recommended you use calendars for your eTask task lists with Yahoo. With this change Yahoo has provided CalDAV access to both Calendars and To Do lists, however only the To Do list "advertise" support for tasks, even though calendars actually support tasks as well. As a result of this change some iCal versions will report "This calendar can only contain events. You can’t add to do items to this calendar."
We now recommend that if you are using iCal with Yahoo that you do not use the default calendar but create To Do lists. You should create a new To Do list even for your primary task list.

For the URL use: https://caldav.icloud.com/
The user name is your full iCloud email address. For example yourname@me.com or yourname@icloud.com
Very Important - you will need to add an app specific password to use eTask with iCloud. You may not use your regular Apple ID password with eTask. See https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204397. Note that this also requires that you have multi-factor authentication turned on. Here are the steps:
Sign in to your Apple ID account page - https://appleid.apple.com
In the Security section, click Generate Password below App-Specific Passwords.
Follow the steps on your screen.
After you generate your app-specific password type this into the password field in eTask
Press the "Find the URL" line.
Once the list of collections is displayed select the reminders collection you want. For example "Work". The correct collections will have a blue (i).
Press Save and Save again.
A note about syncing CalDAV tasks with the Reminders app on iOS 13 and macOS 10.15 (Catalina). Apple has upgraded the Reminders to a new format not compatible with CalDAV. That means if you "upgraded" your tasks when you upgraded to these OS versions tasks in eTask will not sync with Reminders. This is true for all third party apps.
Assuming your user name on chandlerproject.org is joe then the URL will be something like:

The X's are replaced by the collection number you get from the chandler project.
To get the URL from chandler complete with collection number follow these steps:
In Chandler Web-Interface click on the disclosure triangle for a collection
Choose the blue CalDAV button
Copy the address of the collection
Note for iCal use:
https://hub.chandlerproject.org/dav/users/joe
iCal will find the task list automatically
See the Chandler web site for more information: http://chandlerproject.org/
Assuming your user name is joe and your domain is acme.com then the URL will be something like:
http://www.acme.com:8008/calendars/users/joe/calendar/
This will vary depending on your installation. Please consult your IT department for specifics.
See the CalendarServer web site for more information: http://trac.calendarserver.org/
Here are the steps:
1. Set the URL to the base path of your server as in: http://acme.com:8008/
Note that iCalServer uses port 8008 by default but this could change based on the administrative settings.
2. Set the user name and password as appropriate.
iCalendar Servers may require Secure Authentication so it is recommended that you select Secure Authentication on the Account Setup.
3. Press Find URL
4. Wait for the screen to refresh and press the row with "calendar" listed
5. Wait again for the screen to refresh then press Save.
6. Press Save again from the Account edit view.
Repeat this process for additional calendars except select a different calendar folder in step 4.

Public Task lists on Zimbra
To configure a public task list in Zimbra the user that owns (created) the task list must grant access to those that with to share it. The owner does this by right clicking on the task list in the web-interface and selects "Share task list". On the dialog select "Internal users or groups" and enter the e-mail address of the user you wish to grant access to. For example: sally@acme.com. Select Viewer if you only want to give read-only access or Manager for read-write access.
The Sharing user (Sally in this case) will then receive an e-mail invitation to share the task list. If Sally accepts the invitation the task list will appear on her list of task lists (marked as shared).
If Sally wants to access the shared task list from her iPhone with eTask she will use the owners URL with her username and password as follows:
URL: https://www.acme.com/dav/joe@mail.com/Tasks/
username: sally
password:xxxxxx
Assuming your user name is sogo1, your domain is sogo-demo.inverse.ca, and your calendar name is personal then the URL will be something like:

With Publish/Subscribe one calendar client (iCal, Sunbird, eTask etc.) creates/edits the task list. This is the Publisher. The rest will have read-only access. These are the Subscribers.
The first step is to create an account on icalx.com. Go to http://www.icalx.com and follow the instructions to create an account (look for the create link in the Overview column on the right). Next you will need to decide where you want create/edit your calendar containing your task list. If you want to edit your tasks on iCal then create a local calendar in iCal then right click on the calendar and select Publish. Follow the instructions for publishing a calendar on a "private" server. Assuming your user name is acme the URL will be http://icalx.com/private/acme/ for private calendars. Use http://icalx.com/public/acme/ if you plan to give public (no password) access to your task list. Once you publish the calendar log into icalx.com to confirm it exists.
In eTask create a subscribe account. Assuming you used MyTasks as the calendar name in iCal then the URL will be http://icalx.com/private/acme/MyTasks.ics If you made the calendar public then use http://icalx.com/public/acme/MyTasks.ics
You can also make eTask the Publisher if you wish. Just reverse the roles. Create a Local account on eTask, select the Publish option, and set the URL. In this case you will have to create at least one task for the calendar to show on icalx.com.
You can setup a free Toodledo account at http://www.toodledo.com The setup is straight forward. Just follow the instructions on the site.
Next find the Unique Id on the site by selecting Account Settings on the left hand side. It will look something like td324ab45435234.
Subscribe Access (Read Only)
If you will to view this as a Read-Only subscribe account then select Subscribe as the account type in eTask. The URL will be like this:
http://www.toodledo.com/id/td324ab45435234/ical_live_todos.ics
Substitute your Unique ID for the same one shown.
Full Sync Access
Select Toodledo as the account type. The URL will be set automatically to: http://api.toodledo.com
Use the Unique ID as the user name in eTask. And enter your password in the password field.
Select "Test & Browse" to view a list of folders. Select a folder by pressing on the line. Note that "No Folder" is the default folder. Press this if it's the only one shown. Then press Save and Save again.

Support post that seems very helpfull: https://help.nextcloud.com/t/solved-cannot-ssynchronize-nextcloud-tasks-within-thunderbird/88978/2
Yes. Changes you make while not connected to the internet will be stored on the iPhone. The next time you start eTask while connected to the internet your changes will be sync'ed with your on-line task account.
On the task list view or specific task view there is an icon on the lower right that looks like a square with a pen. Press that and a new task window will appear. Once you are done editing press the Save button on the upper right.
On the task list view you can press the Edit button on the top right. Select the red dash icon to the left of the task you wish to delete. A Delete button will appear on the right of the task. Pressing the Delete button permanently deletes the task. Alternatively you may "swipe" your finger from left to right on any task in this view to bring up the Delete button. Again pressing the Delete button permanently deletes the tasks.
By default eTask shows tasks 1 week in the past to 3 weeks into the future. You may change this for each Task List by selecting Edit on the Accounts view and selecting your task list. Press the More Options option to bring up the Account Options page. Here you can change the time range from 1 to 8 weeks in the past to 1 to 8 weeks into the future. Overdue tasks will always display. You may also opt to hide completed tasks from this page.
Certificates are a complicated subject. The current version of eTasks allows you to accept self-signed or out of date certificates permanently.
This is an advanced subject but you can create what is called a "self-signed" certificate for your web-site and distribute the Root certificate to your iPhone. This Root certificate can also be installed on Windows Vista to keep it from continually warning you on your site. See the Certificate page for more information: Certificates
Currently eTask has been tested on the servers listed in Supported Servers section above. We cannot guarantee that eTask will work on other servers. Please e-mail support prior to purchase and we will do our best to help or add support in a future version.
If you are having trouble changing the URL, try the following:
1. Try using the "Test & Browse" feature in Account Setup. See the users guide for more information.
2. Put the phone in Airplane Mode (Settings then slide Airplane Mode to On). Then you will be able to start eTask and change the URL. Once you change the URL exit eTask, turn Airplane Mode back off, then start eTask to see if it works. The URL is very specific. See the above for examples.
3. Uninstall eTask then Reboot your phone. To do this hold the home button and the top power button in at the same time. Don't stop when you see the Power Off slider, just keep holding both buttons until the phone powers down (screen will go black). After this release the buttons. In about 10 seconds or so press the top power button and you will see the Apple logo when the phone starts to boot. Booting takes about 2 minutes. Try installing eTask again.
4. *** IMPORTANT *** Make sure the URL has "http://" or "https://" at the front. If this doesn't work and you don't mind sending me the exact URL you are using in the URL field I may be able to spot the problem.
If you don't mind sending me the crash logs, they are located relative to your Home directory. Plug your phone into your computer first and let it sync and backup. Here is the location for Mac and Windows:
Mac OS X: /Users/<USERNAME>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<DEVICE_NAME>
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application
Data\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\<DEVICE_NAME>
Windows Vista: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Apple
Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\<DEVICE_NAME>
The ones you are looking for should start with "eTask_2009....crash".
