The objectives of the DEV-TREC project are (i) to improve ESC-Q-UAIC chamber facility towards developing a system of regulation and control of temperature (ii) to control the main operating parameters of the ESC-Q-UAIC chamber (iii) to demonstrate the feasibility of the ESC-Q-UAIC chamber facility by validation of the obtained atmospheric chemistry relevant data.
The innovative nature of DEV-TREC project can be ascribed in two ways:
- Firstly by using the sole environmental simulation chamber from Romania and Eastern Europe coupled to unique cutting edge techniques like high-resolution mass spectrometric (PTR-MS and HR-ToF-AMS), long path spectroscopic (FT-IR) and hyphenated chromatographic techniques (GC-MS/FID, HPLC); Such highly equipped smog chamber are not very widespread even in Europe and their development associated with the appropriate tools could bring very interesting results;
- Secondly by improving the facility of the ESC-Q-UAIC chamber, especial by developing a system of regulation and control of temperature, temperature dependent photo-chemical processes, specific to certain tropospheric conditions can be studied;
The originality and the force of the DEV-TREC project are based on the full range of equipment that ESC-Q-UAIC smog chamber is equipped and on the fact that additional experimental evidence relevant for atmospheric chemistry can be generated. We also strongly believe that by development, testing and validation of ESC-Q-UAIC smog chamber will allow us to improve the NIST kinetic data base and product balance (gas and with some extend on particle) for the target reactions and elucidate mechanisms so that the chemistry of these important atmospheric compounds can be better represented in atmospheric chemical models.
Based on the knowledge generated in fundamental atmospheric chemistry research DEV-TREC project aims to validate ESC-Q-UAIC atmospheric simulation chamber (as technology) in the laboratory. This will also increase the capacity of research from UAIC to generate reliable atmospheric chemistry data to support detailed studies of the atmospheric processes that governed by air quality and climate, as well as their impacts on the environment and society.
