Sustainable Product Development

The course combines lectures and exercise sessions that introduce practical methods and software tools for sustainable product development (e.g., material & manufacturing process selection software, LCA software). Students will also conduct a group project involving sustainability assessment, circularity assessment, design, or redesign of a selected product/system. The following topics will be discussed in the course: • Principles of Sustainable Development • Environmental, Social, and Economic Sustainability • Product Development for a Circular Economy • Design for Environment, Ecodesign,  Sustainable Design • Quantitative assessment of sustainability & circularity • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) • Circular Economy Indicators.
