I am an Assistant Professor of Applied Microeconomics at the Department of Management and Microeconomics, University of Frankfurt. Currently, I am visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics, Brown University. I am also the Associate Director (Field) of Frankfurt Laboratory for Experimental Economic Research (FLEX) and Senior Fellow at the Center for Development Research, Bonn University.
My research interests are at the intersection of development economics and political economy; they also connects to behavioral, environmental, and public economics. I study the origins of culture and institutions, how these two forces interact, and the effect this interaction has on economic outcomes. I then build on these insights to design and evaluate public policies in developing countries
Methodologically, my research combines quasi-experimental approaches and randomized field experiments with behavioral experiments. My current projects are based in Ethiopia, India, Nepal, Switzerland, and Uganda.
