This Windows XP version of the app is here
https://flimirx.wixsite.com/filecab/motor
When downloading the files from the Microsoft web site you can not use IE8. So if you are running XP you will need to use a newer browser like Firefox to do your downloads or download on another PC with a newer operating system and put the files on USB stick.
With this XP version of the Motor program you will need to have installed the
Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2008
It can be downloaded from here
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update (x86)
On Microsoft Windows XP you will need to have .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
or a later version installed. If it is not already installed on your PC you can download it from
the Microsoft web site at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7
It's very unlikely that you do not already have a suitable version of .NET installed.
You can also use this version of Motor with later versions of Windows.
If the program starts OK then you already have the required additional software installed.
Your Antivirus program may block this program the first time you try to run it. If you can not get this program to run then check that your Antivirus software is not blocking it. Bitdefender will block all programs from small vendors.
With this version of motor you can use your extended mouse buttons to control the sliders or start/stop the motor.
Choose the slider that you want to control by clicking your right or middle mouse button. A blue rectangle shows near the active slider(s) or buttons. This works best if motorxp is run full screen because your mouse has to be over the app but not over a control. If you have a cordless mouse then this is a bit like having a remote control for your motor.
This XP version of the program has a few extra features that the Windows 10 version does not have.
Lock the blue active slider selection.
Display a clock.
The maximum com port number is changed from 18 to 32.
Change how much the sliders move when the mouse extended buttons are used.
Allows com settings to be typed as well as selected by the drop down menus.
Has a Shutdown button. The k key tends not to function because of program focus issues. Now you also use the Shutdown button or the Shutdown menu. Does a rapid full shutdown of your PC, any open programs are quick closed without doing any saves.
Why have I made a XP version of the program?
Because you can pick up an old XP laptop for about 15 pound and it's fine for controlling a Arduino board.
