IOTA CHAPTER, GOLDSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA
I am humbled and enthusiastic to be the new president of the Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Thank you for your work as educators and mentors for the students in Wayne County. Our work is critical for the vitality of our communities, the future for our children and grandchildren, and the productivity of the next generation.
When I graduated from Southern Wayne High School, I knew I was headed to college to become a high school math teacher. My high school Geometry, Advanced Math and Calculus teacher (Mrs. Vileigh Narron) had Instilled in me a love of mathematics. My parents (Dr. and Mrs. W.B. Raper) had shown me the importance of a good education and community service. My cooperating teacher for student-teaching (Mrs. Margaret Weir) mentored me as I sought to become the best math teacher ever – or so I dreamed. These individuals significantly impacted my professional work, attitude, and training. I am eternally grateful for their endeavors on my behalf. And now I wonder, after 39 years in the educational realm, will a student one day remember me fondly and say I made a difference in their life?
Becoming the Dean for the Arts and Sciences division at Wayne Community College and President of DKG in one year is at the apex of my career. Continuing to serve the students of Wayne County, by leading fellow educators, is inspirational. It is my desire as your leader to promote your good works, to encourage and support my sisters and colleagues, and to motivate you to reach deeper within and stretch higher than ever to achieve. I see DKG as a team, a united group with a common vision, encouraging each other to make a difference in the lives of youth and better our community. This group of active and retired educators has the knowledge and resources to be servants and shepherds. I am excited to have you join me on this journey.
In Sisterhood,
