Bilal Zia
Development Research Group
World Bank
I am a Senior Economist in the Finance and Private Sector Development Team of the Development Research Group at the World Bank in Washington DC. I joined in July 2006 after completing a Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. My research is focused on financial development at the household, firm, and bank levels, and my work has appeared in top general interest and field journals. I use both experimental and non-experimental methods and some of my recent work and interests include rigorous impact evaluations of financial and business education programs, testing innovative methods to improve and measure financial access for households and firms, and applying insights from psychology, AI, and data science to economic decision-making.
(I am currently on leave from the World Bank to pursue an exciting opportunity in the tech sector)
