Editors halt publication as protest to company interference with editorial decisions and in return, Frontiers fires 31 editors from 2 journals including the editors-in-chiefs.
Once thing that drew my attention is the possibility of articles being accepted by associate editors (i.e. volunteer academics) that can be chosen by the authors. That approach seems to be asking for manipulation by false review rings.
Overall, it is hard to mine an objective account, but obviously extreme posturing on both sides. I don't know much about Frontiers, having never published anything with them, but it raises the issue of the inherent goals of this kind of open-access journal.
