This is nuts! A study comparing HIV patients treated immediately vs. after symptoms was halted because it would be unethical to continue (i.e. to keep giving the placebo to the control group) given the vast difference in outcomes. The researchers did the right thing, but it seems so obvious early treatment is better, its kind of irrational that this study had to be done in the first place.
