Getting from Budapest to Debrecen by train:

After you landed at Budapest Airport, look for bus number 200E that will take you to Ferihegy train station, where you can purchase MÁV (Hungarian Railways) tickets from the ticket machines on the platforms. Alternatively, you can also purchase tickets from the conductor on board the train. We recommend that you buy a 2nd class (full-price) ticket to Debrecen (HUF 3690) and an Intercity (IC) seat reservation ticket (HUF 625).

The IC seat reservation ticket is mandatory on IC trains, which run every hour during the day and stop at Budapest Airport train station (Ferihegy). The last IC train leaves for Debrecen from Budapest Airport train station (Ferihegy) at 19:43 every day. The train ride between Budapest-Airport and Debrecen is approx. 2 hours and 30 minutes. The last stop before Debrecen is Hajdúszoboszló and it takes about 15 minutes to get to Debrecen Train Station from there.
