D(DLOY) Years 2006 - 2007(b) SaBRE
On Thursday the 25 October Mike Gaston-Grubb and Glen Miney attended a SaBRE event in Liverpool to obtain a better understanding of the SaBRE organisation and the support it gives to reservists and their employers. SaBRE is a support group which provides guidance and information to those in the reserve forces such as the Naval reserve and the Territorial Army and the firms that employ them. The evening consisted of a reception event where stands incorporating troops who have recently returned from operational tours and those at various levels of preparation training were willing to share their experiences. Brigadier Tom O'Brien then gave a very honest presentation and question session on the role of the armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, in particular centring on the advances in technology such as the use of volcanic rock to stop bleeding in open wounds. Mike then accepted a presentation from Tom on behalf of Atkins in recognition of their support for reservists as employer, fortunately there was no time for a speech of acceptance by Mike as food was being served!!
