Kindergarten Seminar in the University of Jyvaskyla (09.2014-12.2014)

Welcome to attend the Kindergarten Seminar in the University of Jyvaskyla (09.2014-12.2014)!

The room for this seminar is always MaD 355 and the time is always from 13:00-14:00, unless further notice.

Some abstract are written in standard latex code.

If you had any problems, please feel free to contact me.

September 2014

Friday 19

Title: Generalized Stokes Problem

Speaker: Marjaana Nokka

Abstract: Please see the file "Stokes_NokkaMarjaana.pdf".

Friday 26

Title: Density problems on Sobolev spaces in $\mathbb R^n$

Speaker: Yi Zhang

Abstract: I would like to show the main idea in [1], which proves that global smooth functions are dense in $W^{1,\,p}(\Omega)$ for $1<p<\infty$, where $\Omega$ is a planar Jordan domain. Also I would like to introduce the paper [2] briefly, which states that $W^{1,\,2}(\Omega)$ is dense in $W^{1,\,p}(\Omega)$ for $1\le p<2$ for some very general domains. If we had more time, a recent work by Pekka Koskela and me shall be presented.

October 2014

Friday 3

Title: Calderón problem

Speaker: Tommi Brander

Abstract: I introduce the main concepts required for understanding the statement of the Calderón problem, which is a famous inverse problem related to PDE - what sorts of questions are asked and what is the motivation for asking them. I may also briefly discuss some answers to the questions thus posed.

Friday 10

Title: Finding holes with coupling -- multifractal behaviour of porosities in Mandelbrot percolation

Speaker: Tuomo Ojala

Friday 17

Title: LET US HAVE A REST

Speaker: Anyone

Abstract: In Jyvaskyla now, almost every kindergarten is closed. So is the seminar.

Friday 24

Title: The Acoustic Inverse Problem

Speaker: Leyter Potenciano Machado

Abstract: See the attachment "The Acoustic Inverse Problem"

Friday 31

Title: Ordinals in topology

Speaker: Joonas Ilmavirta

Abstract: I will introduce ordinal numbers and their basic properties. I will then use ordinals to describe topological issues, such as convergence, metrics, Borel sets and the long line. If time permits, I will digress into something else.

November 2014

Friday 14

Title: Uniqueness of infinity harmonic functions

Speaker: Eero Ruosteenoja

Friday 21

Title: Introductory Analysis on Heisenberg Groups

Speaker: Shirsho Mukherjee

Abstract: The main topics would be sub riemannian structure, Riemannian approximation, horizontal gradient, divergence and sub laplacian, fundamental solution all the way to sobolev and morrey embeddings on heisenberg group. If time permits then perhaps I can scratch the surface of geometric measure theory on heisenberg groups involving Pansu Differentials and Area-Coarea formula.

Friday 28

The end of the Kindergarten Seminar in the University of Jyvaskyla (09.2014-12.2014)
