About DC CERT

DC CERT trains residents and commuters to be better prepared to respond to emergencies in their communities.

The training is free and open to anyone who lives, works or congregates in the District of Columbia.

When emergencies happen, CERT members can provide critical support to first responders, immediate assistance to victims and can help organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the community safety.

Classes include:

  • Disaster Preparedness
  • Fire Safety
  • Medical Operations and First Aid
  • Search and Rescue
  • Disaster Psychology
  • Terrorism

Enrollment for DC CERT Courses:

Participants can apply to any time up to 2 weeks before the start of the course. Acceptances will be sent prior to the start of the course.

The DC CERT Admissions Staff will review the applications as they are received and notify applicants regarding their status. Once accepted into the course, participants will receive an acceptance letter with further instructions regarding any other matters.

Course Vacancies:

In an effort to fill DC CERT courses, vacancies will be updated frequently and posted on the DC CERT registration website and qualified personnel may apply. DC CERT will fill vacancies on a first-come, first-served basis with maximum cohort size being based on the number of trainers for that course. (NOTE: for anyone not selected into their desired course, they will automatically be waitlisted and offered the next class.)
