My review of the Vesta Precision chamber sealer, the vertical Vac Elite.
I decided to splurge and buy a chamber vacuum sealer. My boring FoodSaver was driving me crazy even with simple seals, and trying to do wet items was really hopeless. I do a fair amount of sous vide cooking, and enjoy playing with odd recipes, so I justified it as my Birthday and Anniversary and Quarantine present. Even with coupon it was a bit over 500 including shipping. ouch. I had looked at the vp112(s) for a while, but it seems to be discontinued. There are some cheapish countertop chamber sealers on amazon with a variety of unexceptional reviews and reports of leaking pump oil which isn't great.
Shipping was super fast, and arrived in good condition. One dent on the outside box, but the sealer itself was inside an inner box. I set it up on the counter and noticed the first annoyance, in that the back right foot pad is around 1mm shorter than the others so it has a slight wobble. I didn't think to take pictures before I stuck it on the wall, so here's a shot, though you can't really see the height difference.
Amazingly, that's not the worst part about having it on a counter. Well, a counter other than mine, since it's slightly too tall to fit under my cabinets. Measure first if you want to do that. In the picture you can see the lower door hinge on the right. This actually extends farther than the 4 legs, so unless you move the door over the edge of the counter it's going to wobble from the height imbalance. Just a bizarre oversight. You could stick a small platform under the 4 feet and leave the door hinge foot in the air I guess. Be sure to add another 1/2" to the height you need under the cabinet.
It does come with back mounting holes in the cabinet. It also sort of has a wall template, but since the template is only in the instruction manual and isn't full size it actually isn't useful. Another odd oversight. Heck, print the hole markers on the box if you need to.
I had a stud nicely located on the right side, and used some heavy duty wall anchors on the left. The plug is a bit annoying in this position, but I ordered a down adapter to make the cord work better.
Sealing seems great so far. The seal time only goes to 6 seconds. All the bags I've done have sealed fine, but another second might be nice. It comes with 2 small packs of their 8 sided vacuum bags, one in the medium and one large. The right hand hook slides to adjust to the bag siz, it's on a edged track. It does take some force to move, but that means it doesn't move once the bag is on it.
The sealing bar comes unattached with no directions, but it just slots in. Another minor oversight.
Better shot of the sealing bar and bag track.
Is it worth it? So far I'm happy, though it has only been a few days. It's certainly not going to save me money compared to the food saver even including bags wasted by food saver sealing issues. I'd likely need to be spoiling 90% of my bags for that. Even including wasted time wouldn't help. But it is useful, and lets me play with some weird recipes.
