In this course we explored education's purposes, traditions, recurring problems and the efforts to address these problems. Howard Gardner's The Disciplined Mind, Vivian Paley's The Girl With the Brown Crayon and Philip A. Cusick's A Passion for Learning served as important guides that helped us explore concepts of educational inquiry.
In the following paper I reflect on my beliefs about the importance of motivation and technology. I also look back at how the topics of globalization and cultural heritage served to stretch my thinking.

In this course we explored the roles and responsibilities of school leaders and how one might create enlightened approaches to addressing them. Case studies were an important vehicle we used to explore several diverse leadership and organizational issues.
In the following paper I examine what characteristics, values and dispositions I saw as indispensable for one wishing to take on a leadership role.

In this course we explored different strategies for successfully sharing leadership in schools. During this course we also tackled a shared leadership challenge in our particular school setting.
To improve specialist involvement at Canadian International School, I took on the project of incorporating Japanese specialist teachers into my unit of inquiry.

In this course we explored how to find unintended messages in children's books and to challenge our assumptions about teaching children literature.
In the following paper, I give solutions for how we can overcome some of the assumptions we make as adults with regards to what children should read. I also take a look back at how assumptions helped to shape my experiences as a child.

Arguing that most of us experience powerful moments outside of a school setting, Dr. Wong led us on a journey where we took a deeper look at how we could create truly compelling experiences in our classrooms.
For the final project, Dr. Wong asked us to focus on a classroom lesson and describe how we would use the logic learned from the course to create a powerful moment in the classroom.

EAD 876: Budgeting & Finance in Higher Education

In this course we explored the fundamentals of higher education finance. This included taking a close look at external sources of funding, internal resource allocation process while also considering social and economic principles.
To conclude the course, I wrote a research paper on how privatization and outsourcing is changing the landscape of Higher Education. I also explore how this trend is affecting Japan's universities.

EAD 864: Adult Career Development

Dr. Weiland led us on a journey as we looked at career development across a variety of career fields. We explored the motives and reasoning for specific choices people made as their career unfolded. The course wrapped up with a close look at Parker Palmer and his excellent philosophy on career development.
Below is a paper that touches on the theme of compromise through the lens of a journalist and the career choices he must make to protect his source.

In this course we took a look at how globalization is playing an integral part in moving us towards a Learning Society. Anthony Gidden's Runaway World played a crucial role in helping us gain a clearer picture of how much our world has changed and where we are headed to.
In the following paper, a few of my fellow colleagues and I collaborated to create a sound learning environment for a diverse learning community. In the paper we give solutions for how we would best meet the ESL needs of our learning community.

Professor Shankland had us partake in actual book clubs while also offering us the opportunity to learn about the effectiveness of Book Club/Literature Circles in the classroom. We also created six-week integrated units with a strong focus on reading, writing and speaking.
In the following paper, I created an integrated unit that explores how one can incorporate language arts activities into the science-based unit of exploring senses.

In this capstone course we were asked to look back at the work we have completed in our Master's Program and to create this E-Portfolio showcasing the best of our work along with other pertinent items that future employers, colleagues, friends and family may find useful. We also provided support to our peers and gave feedback regarding the progress of their E-Portfolios We closed out the course by doing a live Portfolio Exhibition with our fellow classmates.
