I’m a PhD economist joining the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business. I study how fiscal and monetary policies shape real economies, with a focus on DSGE modeling. My work spans two areas in particular: (1) fiscal policy in open economies and (2) the macroeconomic implications of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).
I enjoy translating research into classroom learning and public commentary. I teach economics with an applied, data-driven approach, connecting models to current events and policy debates.
I earned my PhD at the University of Washington and previously served on the faculty of the Albers School of Business and Economics at Seattle University. Before graduate school in the United States, I was a research fellow at the Gaidar Institute for Economic Policy, where I had the privilege of working alongside Yegor Gaidar. I assisted on research later published as Collapse of an Empire and Russia: A Long View —a memorable period in my career.
