SML sampler

A cheap, but efficient prototype of sea surface microlayer (SML) drum sampler is constructed.

Main characteristics:

• PVC pipes as main construction base

• PMMA sampling cylinder (40 cm diameter)

• PTFE/PC wiper

• variable rotation using 12 V battery powered gear electromotor (up to 15 rpm)

• ~5-10 L of SML in 1 h 

• adaptable depth of surface sampling

• easy mounting/dismounting

• adaptable for mounting additional devices (e.g. CTD multiprobe)
