My career as a biologist has only begun a little while ago-but it is always good to pause and reflect on the things I set out to do, to think how much has been achieved and the future plans, to learn from mistakes and success too!
I should say at the beginning that my mother had a lot of influence on how I became interested in biology and later the career path I chose. No--she is not a biologist. But as a statistician helping biologists to make sense of their data (sometimes very messy data!) and plan "experiments" she developed a unique perspective of biology, especially ecology. In many of our dinner table conversations, she used to explain in simplest possible language the fascinating research people were doing on birds, bees, wasps, elephants, butterflies, deer, tigers, insects even plants-- that's when I got hooked to magic words like ecology, evolution...
What was once just a fascination for wild creatures has now transformed into my career path. I am no more that dreamy girl planning adventures in jungle, now I have got the taste of field work and the ability to frame my questions in scientific way. The path taking me to the field of behavioral ecology was twisted, I took quite a detour and break--but here I am now doing just what I imagined myself doing. Let the journey continue....................
