Perhaps we, as a civilization and a species, are undergoing a rite of passage of the most epochal and profound kind, acted out on the stage of history with, as it were, the cosmos itself as the tribal matrix of the initiatory drama. What seems to be unfolding is not only a recovery of the soul of the world, the anima mundi, but a new relationship to it. Something new is being forged.

We all know how people who have a near death experience tend to come out of it with a rather radical change in their life philosophy. It has a more potent effect in five seconds, than almost anything else can have.  But you can't have a "pretend" near death experience for it to have that kind of moral, spiritual and psychological transformation. You really have to feel that everything is at stake and the result is uncertain.

And that's just what we are experiencing today...on a collective scale.

Everything that Joseph Campbell described as the initiatory experience: the crisis of meaning, being isolated from the rest of the community, the sense of facing one's own mortality, the personal suffering, the deconstruction of the old identity, like an old self is dying - everything that I just described...is what's happening on the collective level to our human civilization.

Except now we are looking at planetary mortality rather than just an individual person's mortality. We are having to go through a dying of our whole identity as to who we are in relation to nature. Who we are relative to the cosmos...  We're at a really dicey place [in history] right now, where the question is, will enough individuals go through this kind of profound, inner transformation and inner work...to be able to go through what is basically a symbolic, spiritual death? ...So that we don't have to do it literally.

We've already set in motion destructive forces. And some of those forces are already affecting the world and probably are going to continue. And the question is, will the kind of "near death experience" we are going through in slow motion right now, be sufficient to catalyze enough of a psycho-spiritual transformation, in enough people, that those people can serve as centers of insight and equilibrium, to inform the whole?

It doesn't take everybody to do this, but it takes enough people who are able - so that their sensibility, their transformation, can ripple out.

Eagles live 70 years, but at 40 they have to make a difficult decision, their talons become so long and flexible that they cannot hold the prey they feed on. The long and sharp beak curves too far on the chest and no longer it is useful Their wings are old and heavy, according to the large size of their feathers, and then flight becomes very difficult for them.

It has two alternatives: abandon itself and die, or face a painful process of renewal, which consists of flying to a nest in the mountains near a wall, because it is safe. The eagle starts hitting the wall with its beak with great force until it is pulled. Then it will wait for a new beak to grow, with which it will detach its old nails one by one. When the new claws begin to hatch, it will begin to pull out its worn feathers.

And after all those long and painful five months of wounds, scars and growth, he manages to make his famous flight of renewal, rebirth and celebration to live another thirty years ...

In our lives, in order to continue a victory streak, we often need to take shelter for a while and begin a process of renewal.

We must let go of habits, traditions and memories whose weight prevents us from moving forward. Only free from the past can we take advantage of the valuable result that a renewal always brings us.

Renewal within involves putting order in the mental world, removing memories of frustrating or painful events to remain only with the experience of what we have learned.

To put ourselves in order, to renew and escape, we must know ourselves, know who we are, what our potentialities are and where we want to go.

No need to adapt to the problem; there is a possibility to get rid of it. But the road is a bit difficult, the road is a challenge. It's your choice.

Let's follow the path of the eagles. Always up, always forward...
