Fatima Cross

   This Fatima Cross was designed for the foyer of  the Catholic School of Our Lady of Fatima in Cambridge. It was unveiled on the first of November 2009 for 50th anniversary of the founding of this school.

    The Cross is symbol of our Faith and in this case this is also the the first piece of the Rosary where we pray the Apostle's Creed.

    If we look inside of the cross, the rosary is made of pearl beads which are between oak leaves and acorns.

    The leaves are in the colours of autumn since they symbolize month of rosary- October. They remind us of walks during a sunny day and the sound of crunching leaves  like the repeated rhythmic sounds of Hail Mary's as steps between the rosary mysteries.

    There are 20 mysteries of the rosary presented on the 20 acorns, they are stories from Jesus' and Mary's life: Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and Luminous.

The fruit of the oak tree, acorns, are the seeds to new life, new trees, which can grow if they fall in good soil. And if the rosary is well meditated, it will grow in us.

Acorns are also food for animals but people can survive with acorns in bad times, maybe it is the sign for spiritual food in the bad times of our spiritual life.

    Three children: Francisco, Jacinta and Lucy saw Our Lady on a young oak tree in Fatima, Cova de Iria. By the location of her appearances to the children and her Introduction to them as Queen of the rosary maybe she wanted to remind to us that the rosary is a strong prayer like the oak is strong tree and that it is also rich prayer like the oak tree has rich branches.

The Fatima prayer, which Or Lady left for us, is written on the trunk of the oak tree:

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell and lead all souls into Heaven, especially those who most need thy mercy.

Our Lady shows Jesus' Heart surrounded by a crown of thorns and she is keeping the white pearl rosary in her other hand as a victorious weapon against evil.

Even though some people doubt the existence of Hell, She was not afraid to show it to the children. She had done the Miracle of the Sun in front of thousands of people, to prove that what She said is true. She predicts World War Two and that " Russia will spread its errors throughout the world, raising up wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer and various nations will be annihilated." and it happened. But She also promised that Her Immaculate Heart will triumph.

The children are focused on Our Lady and they listen and do what She tells them to do.

As tree foreshadows the real wooden cross on which Jesus died so Mary by her 'Yes' to God foreshadows Saviour Jesus and He saved us by sacrificing Himself on the Cross and Resurrection.

The whole cross is in gold colors which symbolize Heaven, because this Fatima event is a Heavenly message which should remind to us of the Heavenly Hope.
