David Rising of the Associated Press wrote an article ("Distinctive salutes run the political gamut") that was brainlessly regurgitated over the web about the Nazi salute and, in the article, Rising showed the world that he is an ignoramus and is another victim of Wakipedia by repeating various errors common to Wikipedia.
Another stereotypical part of the AP story by David Rising is that he (and the associated press) did not have the guts to even mention the U.S.'s pledge of Allegiance and its early Nazi salute, nor show a photo or video of it. Nor even mention the impact of the Pledge gesture on salutes worldwide. For that see the work of the acclaimed historian Dr. Rex Curry. http://rexcurry.net
From the "Bellamy salute" in the pledge (1892) the nazi gesture spread to become the official Olympic salute and spread worldwide, influencing socialists globally, including China. The U.S.'s Pledge of Allegiance gesture was the origin of the gesture that continues to be used by China's Pioneers, which they borrowed from Soviet Socialism's Young Pioneers (who gained it via the U.S.).
It is sad to realize that when German socialists and Soviet Socialists were allies (and before) in 1939, they were both doing the "Nazi salute" which was made in the U.S.
Hitler learned the American nazi gesture from Harvard grad Ernst Hanfstaengl.
The early Pledge of Allegiance began with a military salute that was then extended outward to point at the flag and, in practice, the second gesture was performed palm down. That was the origin of what later became mis-named the "Roman salute" (Francis Bellamy was from Rome, New York, not Rome, Italy).
The concept of the Roman salute did not even exist until around the 1920's (see Dr. Curry's work and also the Oxford English Dictionary for proof of how recent the phrase and concept "Roman salute" is).
The painting "Oath of the Horatii" does not show the "ancient Roman salute" and the painter never used that phrase or concept, as that phrase/concept did not exist at that time. Similarly, Bellamy did not use the phrase/concept "ancient Roman salute" as that phrase/concept did not exist during the time that Bellamy created the pledge (1892). The painting does not show the gesture, it shows three people reaching for weapons, including the use of the left hand. The Horatii lie is a very modern lie, fabricated circa 2006(?) by a debunked poster on wakipedia in order to cover-up the Pledge of Allegiance's putrid past. Even that Wikipedia poster who made up the lie has admitted the fabrication and recanted it. David Rising is another of many victims of Wakipedia.
Bellamy clearly explained the origin of the early pledge salute (a military salute extended outward to point at the flag). In practice the second gesture was performed palm down.
The Oath of Horatii lie was created by liars on Wakipedia after the liars were exposed when wikipedia previously lied that old Roman statues showed the ancient Roman salute, and all those wikipedia lies were deliberately manufactured in an effort to hide the truth that was exposed by Dr. Curry.
No one should stand for nor chant the Pledge of Allegiance because it was the origin of the Nazi salute and Nazi behavior. The pledge continues to be the origin of similar behavior even though the gesture was changed to hide the pledge's putrid past. The pledge is central to the US's police state and its continued growth.
The U.S. has been, and continues to be, a police state. Support for the Pledge of Allegiance is flagging. Stop the Pledge.
