I am professor at the Departamento de Geociencias, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, within the MSc in Meteorology (courses: Dynamic Meteorology, Physical Meteorology, Science of Climate Change)
I also lead the Atmospheric Sciences Research Group, where I conduct research mainly in tropical convection.
In order to study the spatio-temporal distribution of atmospheric deep convection in Northwestern South America, I developed a method that identifies, tracks and analyzes convective events based on infrarred satellite images (GOES-13 or GOES-16). Results are published (Hernández-Deckers, 2022), and the code is available on Github.
