We are always excited to work with scientists from diverse research backgrounds with their own independent interests. If you have interest in existing projects in the lab or have an idea for a postdoctoral research project that would integrate well with our research group, please contact Dan to discuss opportunities. Include a CV and a brief description of your research/career interests.
We intend to accept a Ph.D. student to join the lab in Fall 2026. Most students in our lab have generally included a mixture of both wet-lab and computational work. There should also be true for this position, but we will be particularly interested in students who would like to make research and training in comparative genomics and computational analysis a major part of their graduate experience.
We accept graduate students through the Department of Biology and affiliated graduate programs, including Cell and Molecular Biology and Ecology. Students are expected to develop independent projects aligned with some of the broad research themes in the lab. Students interested in graduate research in the lab are strongly encouraged to contact Dan prior to applying to the university. Inquiries should describe the student's research interests and background and how the lab's general research program is a good match for their research and career goals.
CSU undergraduates interested in gaining research experience are encouraged to contact Dan. Potential projects include opportunities for molecular genetic lab work (DNA/RNA extraction, quantitative PCR, etc.), plant crossing and genetic experiments, and computational/bioinformatic analysis.
Researchers interested in potentially joining the lab may want to review this document on code of conduct and lab principles.
