Ballet - Royal Academy of Dance (RAD)

Ballet for pleasure and ballet for the more serious-minded. This classical style of expressive movement has something to offer everyone. While ballet dates back to the 17th century, the conventional steps, grace and fluidity of movement are still found in ballet today. Composers of all styles of music have influenced choreographers throughout the ages. The techniques found in ballet are the foundations of all forms of dance. It builds strength and control throughout the body and it is excellent for general fitness and flexibility, regardless of your age.

Jazz - International Dance Teachers Association & Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD)

Jazz can be anything from the type of dancing you see in musicals to more commercial types of dance that you see in pop videos. This is a fun and energetic form of dancing to current music that enhances performance skills and builds confidence.

Tap - Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD)

Tap is rhythm – rhythm is tap. Its origins are many and varied. Americans claim it dates back to the African-Caribbean dances, while the Irish stake their claim based on traditional jigs and step dancing, and the English likewise relate it to northern clog dancing. Whichever origin one chooses to believe, tap is as popular today as it was in the heyday of the great Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly musicals. Evergreen shows ‘42nd Street’ and ‘Crazy For You’, and the more recent ‘Stomp’ and ‘Tap Dogs’ highlight the great diversities of style and music in tapping. A rhythmical and enjoyable way to keep fit!

Modern - Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD)

Modern dance is fun. You will develop many different movements reaching to a wide variety of rhythms and musical styles. Classes develop the physical strength and flexibility required to demonstrate emotion through the interpretation of any musical genre. One minute you may be dancing to the rhythm of a drum, the next to a funky jazz style. You will explore the contrast between expansion and relaxation, and learn to isolate in a slick stylish mood, whatever the atmosphere of the class. Modern provides a wonderful opportunity to react and interact with other members of the class and also dance to express your feelings.
