How to Join in Second Life

Step 2 - you have a Second Life account and want to login INSIDE the virtual world

In order to actually login into Second Life, you need to download and install a client. I am strongly recommending Firestorm Viewer, which you can find HERE.

Step 3 - you have been thorough the first two steps but you would like to also be able to donate or use the local currency to buy things, or whatever...    

You would have to go to your account, on the Official Website of Second Life.

To do so:

- click the upper link;

- login with your name and the password you have setup in the first step;

- in the left navigation bar, go to Account > Billing Information and setup the best way for you to use for purchasing the Linden Dollar currency, used inside the Second Life grid as local currency.

Just follow the steps the Second Life website offers you, in order to setup your billing information and all is done.

The same information will be used if you wish to eventually withdraw Linden Dollars to your PayPal account or credit card.

Click the "Join Now" button

Choose your operating system by clicking on the icon representing the system installed on your machine. In my case, Windows.

Using the arrows, you can toggle thorough the avatars to choose the one you would like to use INSIDE Second Life and which will represent the virtual you.

Once you find an avatar you like, click "Choose This Avatar" button to go forward.

Choose the corresponding sistem setting, for

"SL & Opensim" download (32 or 64 bit)

Then "Click to DOWNLOAD"

        Download the .exe file in a location you can easily find, then run the setup, from that location, in order to install the viewer.

In the next page you must insert the name you would want to have inside Second Life.

(I suggest you to use a name which represents you, as individual or as organization)

When you are done, click the "Check Availability" button.

Check the box to agree the terms of conditions,

then click "Install"

If the name is available, you will get this page and you can click the "Next Step" button, to go forward.

This is the last step you need to make:

insert your email address, your birth date (is necessary to use your real one, in order to prove the fact that you are an adult, as Second Life is very strict in what regards the access of children to some specific locations).

Choose a password.

Choose a security question and insert your answer to it.

Check the second box, to agree with the terms and conditions of Second Life.

Click the "Create Account" button.

All set so far!!

Now you can go to the second step!

Wait for the program to install then open it, from your Desktop, where you should have its icon now.

Insert your name and password, then click

"Login"

Pressing Ctrl + P will open your Preferences panel, where I am suggesting some quick useful setups.

Have a look over the way my settings are and you can use them at will. One very important setting which you should definitely have is the "I want to access content rated:"

Make sure you set it as "General, Moderate, Adult".

It will allow you to access any type of regions in Second Life.

You can also use these settings, as well, to make your life a bit easier moving around the grid.

Now you can eventually go to the third step!
