👋Hi! Before you go, take our quick survey!
(no subject) - Who would open this?
Write the subject line first. What happens often is that people forget to write one and that email will likely be never opened and get lost in the 58+ unopened emails that they have.
Eliminate filler words. Emails are often read on our smartphones with little screens, so keep it short & sweet. Don’t waste it with unnecessary words like "hello," "nice to meet you," and "thanks," which can easily be included in the body.
To another classmate/coworker- Name the project or assignment that your email is about.
You need a response - Write "Please reply" or "(Thoughts/Ideas) needed on …"
Time is not on your side - Include a deadline "Reply by Wednesday: (...)" or "Respond Soon: (...)".
You want it to be interesting - Use their name. They will be more likely to open it.
It's for a job application - Include your position & your name.
You met/talked with them before - Spark their memory & include that at the beginning.
You want to meet - Make sure you mention the day or week & what the meeting will be about.
