New Information Posted 11/2/23:
Dear Coaches and Athletic Administrators,
The CYAA Race is a little over two weeks away and I know it’s in dire need of an update! This website will still be the way to get questions answered. I will try to give an update every couple of days or so starting next week.
I think we are simplifying the process quite a bit as we are going “old school” concerning registration and the timing and scoring process. You may or may not know that we lost our computer guy (Chris Pfaff), who has been running the timing and scoring program. There are professional companies that time races, but they are very expensive. Mr. Pfaff registered, timed and recorded with his own program and did it for free! Never fear! For 100’s of years, before computers were invented, people ran, scored and timed Cross Country meets! We can do this! (and it will be free)
We will follow the same course, the same race schedule, the same awards. All of that info is still on the website.
Here’s what’s different:
Registration
There is none! You just show up with your kids.
The hard part for you is after the race! Not really that hard!
The finish line
After the kids cross the finish line, they will be ushered through the shoot in the order they finished. (this is key)
As they leave the shoot, they will be given a place card, (index card with the number that they finished)
The kids will take the card directly to you and your assistants.
You will put the runner’s name (first and last) on the place card and drop it into an envelope with your school’s name on it. (We provide the envelope)
You will turn in the envelope when all of your runners have finished and have been accounted for.
Determining the team scores
We will have a team of volunteers who will write down the names and places of your team and figure out your team total
(Which is the sum of the places of your top 5)If we get the place cards back quickly, we should be able to calculate the team score promptly. Please write the runners names legibly.
Restrictions this year by Parks and Recreation and AWARDS:
Unfortunately, they will not let me put stakes in the ground for flagging.
I’m buying 300 multi-colored cones for the course. We will make it work.
Also, the parking at Granada is crazy!
They told me I have to have a plan to reduce the amount of cars in the neighborhood. The only thing I can think of is not having the awards ceremony so families can leave after the race. High School XC Invitationals have already done this, I actually think it’s better.
We will give the top 10 medals to the kids at the finish line.
As far as the team awards, they will be issued to the coaches after the meet. Agreed, it’s not as exciting.
At this point, it’s OK if you don’t understand the process.
Next week I will be available to answer more questions. My email is davevansickle@xcp.org.
With HS state XC this weekend, I will be busy, and I won’t be able to answer your emails until next week.
